Summer Fowler is the Technical Director of the CERT Cybersecurity Risk & Resilience Directorate in the CERT Program at Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Summer is responsible for executing the strategic plan for a research portfolio focused on improving the security and resilience of organizational assets, including people, information, technology, facilities, and infrastructures. Summer has 16 years of experience in software and systems engineering, particularly in software development and systems engineering. Prior to joining the SEI, Summer was a Technical Member at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and a software engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation. Summer holds a BS degree in Computer Science and a MS degree in Information Science/Telecommunications from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a graduate of the CMU Tepper School Leadership and Negotiation Academy for Women, and she is a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute. Summer teaches two graduate level courses on Information Technology Project Management and Cybersecurity Policy at the CMU Heinz School. She is also the Technical Sponsor of the CISO Executive Certificate Program, and the lead for Cyburgh, PA – an initiative to bring recognition to Pittsburgh as a leader in cybersecurity.
